During library time, the younger children will be read a story about something they are learning in class or seasonal material. They will also recite poems, count, learn letters, and put on plays. They will also learn parts of a book and how to take care of books. The older children will learn many library skills. They will learn the different parts of the book and how they are useful to a reader, the Dewey Decimal System, different genres, reference books like an atlas, encyclopedia, dictionary, thesaurus, and almanacs. Library is meant to be a fun time as well as a learning time.
Children in grades 1-4 will be allowed to check out books for one week. When they return to their library class the following week, they need to return their checked out book. If they forget their book they will not be allowed to check out another book until they return the overdue book.
